## What this site is

Lens & Lightyear is a US buying guide for people choosing a space gift for a child aged roughly
four to twelve. It is organized by the age of the child rather than by aperture, optical design or
price, because "she is turning eight" is the one fact a gift buyer actually has.

Two things make it different from the rest of this category:

1. **We publish the arithmetic the packaging skips.** For every telescope we compute what the
   supplied eyepieces actually deliver, and compare that with the manufacturer's own published
   highest useful magnification. Several boxes ship eyepieces that exceed their own maker's stated
   limit, and we name them.
2. **We cover what happens after the purchase.** Why a new telescope shows nothing on night one,
   how to align a finderscope, what a 70mm telescope genuinely shows. No other site ranking for
   these terms addresses that evening.

## What we do NOT claim

- We have **not tested** these products. There is no lab, no owned inventory, and no "in our
  testing" anywhere on the site.
- The author, Scooter M., is framed as an enthusiast, not a credentialed astronomer. No
  certifications, no expert panel, no medical or educational reviewer.
- There are **no scores, star ratings or review counts** on this site, and none in its structured
  data either.
- There are **no customer testimonials**, because we have no customers to quote.

Instead we compile published manufacturer specifications, link the exact page every figure came
from, and show our working so a reader can reproduce it with a calculator.

## Prices

Prices come only from a live retailer feed and carry the date they were checked. If that feed has
not run within 48 hours every figure disappears automatically and buttons fall back to "check
price". No price on this site is ever typed by hand or carried over from an older version of a
page. **No price figures appear in this file** for exactly that reason — they would be stale the
moment it was written.

## How the site is funded

Lens & Lightyear is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and earns a
commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to the reader. Amazon is currently the only
retailer we earn from; links to manufacturers such as Celestron, Sky-Watcher and Bresser are plain
citations that earn nothing. No sponsored placements, no free products, no paid rankings.
