The short version
We do not ask you to create an account, we do not sell data, and we do not run advertising trackers. We use Google Analytics to count visits, and if you use the contact form your message is emailed to us. That is the whole picture.
What we collect
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to count page views, see which pages are read and which buy buttons are clicked. It records things like approximate location by region, device type, browser and referring site. We do not use it to identify individuals and we have no interest in doing so.
- Contact form submissions. If you write to us, the name, email address, optional phone number and message you type are sent to our email inbox. Nothing about that submission is stored in a database on this site.
- Standard server logs. Our hosting provider records request logs, including IP addresses, as part of operating the service. We use them only to keep the site running and to limit automated abuse of the contact form.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, no passwords, no profiles.
- No payment information — you never buy anything on this site. Purchases happen on the retailer's own site under their terms.
- No advertising or retargeting pixels. We do not run display advertising.
- No newsletter list at present. If that changes, this page changes first.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish one visit from another. Nothing else on this site sets a cookie — the site is otherwise static pages with no session, no login and no personalization.
You can block those cookies in your browser settings or with any tracker-blocking extension. The site works identically with them blocked; we simply see one fewer visit in a chart. There is nothing here that requires a cookie to function.
Affiliate links
When you click a buy button, you leave this site through a redirect on our own domain and arrive at the retailer with a tracking parameter attached. That parameter tells the retailer the visit came from us; it does not tell us who you are, and we never see your order, your name or anything you buy.
What we do see is aggregate counts: how many people clicked a given button. Once you land on the retailer's site you are governed by their privacy policy, not ours. Our commercial arrangements are set out on the affiliate disclosure.
Who else processes your data
| Service | What it handles | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosting and request logs | The site has to be served from somewhere. |
| Google Analytics 4 | Page views and click events | So we know which pages are worth improving. |
| Microsoft 365 / Graph | Contact form email delivery | So a message you send actually reaches us. |
| Amazon | Referral tracking after you click a buy button | How the site is funded. |
Children
Lens & Lightyear writes about gifts for children, and it is written for the adults buying them. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Block analytics in your browser or with an extension. Nothing breaks.
- Do not use the contact form if you would rather not send us your email address — everything on this site is readable without it.
- Ask us to delete a message you sent. Write to info@lensandlightyear.com and we will remove it from our inbox.
- Request what we hold on you. Given the above, the answer is almost always "nothing beyond a message you sent us", and we will confirm that in writing.
Changes to this policy
If we add anything that collects data — a newsletter, a comment system, anything at all — this page is updated before that goes live, and the date at the top changes with it.
